Hello! I thought I would just walk you through how I replace an edge connector. Here’s what you’ll need:

A Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in need of repair – Got this from Savers (thrift store) awhile ago for $13
A new 72 pin connector – Got mine from Ebay for $15
A phillips screwdriver
Paper towels and window cleaner

First things first, gotta open the system up.

I used the expansion port cover on the bottom of the system to hold the screws. Nifty, huh? Using the paper towels and the glass cleaner is good to get the dirt and dust off the system, but I actually washed the top of the system in the sink with warm soap water and elbow grease to get the crayon or whatever it was off of the system. Then I let it dry while I did the rest.

Time to remove the shielding and the tray that actually holds in the game and allows you to push it down. A lot of screws. That cover is really great to hold those screws.

Do you see the missing part? It’s pretty easy to remove. Putting the new one on is not so easy. Don’t fret, you’ll get it on eventually. You have to position it just right to be able to get it on. Took me a minute or two, but I got it.

Before I put it back together, I have to make sure that it works right. I had Gauntlet in the system below this one, so I took it out and tested it in this one. It worked! And on my first try! Yeah!!

Looks really pretty! This was my first time doing this on my own. Thanks to Salzmafia (http://www.salzmafia.com/ for showing me how this is done!

I finally do! I’ve wanted one of these for awhile and now I have one! As you can see, it was purchased for $3. It’s missing the AC adaptor and the 2nd player controller as well as the gun has some fraying on the chords, but the knock-off N64 controller works just fine! I remember back in the day when you could find these at the mall no problem, but it’s not so simple now. I heard that the company making them were sued or something like that. I don’t recall where I heard that. I’m not even sure what the name of this thing is. I’ve always called them Super Joy cause that’s what it says on the controller, but it doesn’t say Super Joy anywhere on the box. They call it Power Player. Oh well, it plays NES games so that’s all that matters.

In case you’ve never played with one of these before, you turn it on and you come to the screen shown above. As you can see, there are 76 games programmed into this controller. Are they all real games? Well, yes. But I’ll show you a few examples of the games.

As you can see, this game is called Monkey YIX. It’s actually Donkey Kong Jr. But doesn’t he look a bit strange?

This next game has a perplexing title: Painter

What is it?

Looks like Crush Roller to me, but the only information I can find about this ever being released on the NES is an unlicensed Famicom game called Bookyan. Maybe someone can tell me more.

So tell me, do you own a Super Joy? Do you like it? I know I do. I can play games like Circus Charlie and Nuts & Milk (or Milk & Nuts, not quite sure which is the correct order) without having to own a Famicom.

So this is where I’m at so far. I wanted to start with the rainbow because I already had the colors in my personal yarn collection. Right now it measures 22.5 inches by 20 inches. So it’s not very big, but there is going to be more of the dark blue around the outer edges of the actual cat and rainbow. But I’m ready to move on to the rest of the Nyan cat!

Not quite sure how I’m going to get this sold after it’s done. I was told that my attempt at selling the Mega Man energy tank blanket could have been better on Ebay, so maybe I’ll give that another shot. I may have a co-worker interested in purchasing it, but I don’t know if they’ll like the price tag.

That is all!

Super Batter Up is a game I picked up from the thrift store for $2 not knowing what to expect. I’m normally not a fan of sports games, but who would pass up a boxed game that was so cheap? I wouldn’t! So I bought it!

This game is like a 16-bit version of RBI Baseball on the NES. It even has some of the same music!

You have your normal 1 player and 2 player mode, but you also have a league mode. I like how the 1 player icon is an angry SNES. I didn’t even notice it right away.

Pick your team. I don’t know anything about teams and whatnot, so I just pick whatever.

Pick your lineup. Much more complicated than RBI Baseball. Again, I know nothing about this stuff, so I just jump in without doing anything.

Game on! It certainly doesn’t have the cutsey feel of RBI, but it does look good to me. The hit detection is a bit weird and your basemen and outfielders run weird. It’s still fun.

So the verdict? Stick with RBI Baseball on the NES. It’s more fun. I don’t know if Super Batter Up is easier, but it’s not as fun to me. It was worth the $2 though.
